Give your child the SoF Edge

The world is not limited to the subjects taught in school. The real world is about the interconnections of various subjects. We will take up different topics each month and teach it from the lens of science, social science and arts. So that your child is capable of making connections and applying concepts in real life.

We don’t know how the future will be but we believe in enabling kids to be ready for it. Through our pedagogy, students become active learners, are able to make independent decisions, inculcate skills like empathy and become problem solvers.

Your child will join a cohort, talk to students from different cultures, backgrounds and ethnicities. They will be exposed to the lives and thoughts of people in different parts of the country. It is a known fact that children learn much quickly from peers than from teachers or parents.

Studies have shown that children who are critical thinkers and problem solvers are able to outperform their peers in academic subjects like math. In fact, problem solving is the most effective way to learn math. These students can also make better decisions about their friends and careers.

Your child will use their screen time productively to interact with global peers, express their ideas and thoughts and learn various topics holistically, all under the guidance of an experienced and vigilant mentor.

Once in a month, you and your child team up for various activities, all the while interacting with parents and their children in the cohort.

Here are some topics your child will learn about

  • Health & Food

It is very important for young children to understand what they are eating and the concept behind health. In this module, children learn about what they eat, what it means to develop healthy habits, why exercise is important, and the concept of body awareness.

  • Entrepreneurial project

Entrepreneurship is the buzzword and who learn it better than young kids budding with energy. Your child will learn about the ABC of startups, how the trend came into being, why are startups growing and build a small entrepreneurial project themselves.

  • Water

Imagine how has water impacted our lives. It led to emergence of life and growth of human civilization. There have been wars on water. Then there are scientific aspects of water. To top it all off, water, a naturally abundant resource, is no longer free. We have to pay for water! In this unit, your child will be able to look at water from all of these perspectives and make more connections for themselves.

  • Global Goals

It’s not about telling our kids how many problems are there in the world with so much hysteria and drama. It’s about letting them understand what’s important and why. This unit will enable your child to understand and explore the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

How do we teach?

The hour-long sessions focus on lifelong learning characteristics such as inquiry, original thinking, experimentation, presenting, group collaboration, and personal reflection. This learning style has a huge impact on inquiring, original thinking, working with others, presenting with confidence, and an insane amount of reflecting, which they will use in all aspects of their life for the rest of their lives.

FAQs

  • This is the stage in a child's development when they are most imaginative. Their understanding of the world and of themselves is growing at an exponential rate. Hence, skills like critical thinking and problem solving are easier for them to grasp.  Children who lack these abilities grow up to be confused adolescents. They struggle to make sense of themselves and the world while also dealing with significant academic and career pressures.

  • We pay individual attention to all our students. Here is what one of our student has said:

I am interested in turning on my camera and interacting with my mentor and peers and it doesn’t feel like a lecture. The environment is very friendly and I have a lot of fun.

  • These skills are particularly critical, as they are not developed through formal education but mainly through informal learning or family connections. In this era of pandemic and nuclear families, social connections are very limited.

Children learn much more from each other than in classrooms, but they cannot learn these skills simply by hanging out with their friends. They require someone to lead them through the process and assist them in making sense of what they are acquiring and how they can put it to use. This is where our cohort-driven learning pedagogy comes into play.

  • Skills can’t be taught. They can be developed. Every month, we will discuss a different topic, such as water, global goals, banks, Greece, and so on. The weekly gamified sessions will assist your child in understanding these topics from every angle possible. They will learn new skills and gain a better understanding of these topics during the session.

  • The session is for you as well as for us. It will help you better understand us and the program. We'd also like to speak with the child to see if they'd be a good fit for the program. Your child will be eligible for a special Sibling's Discount because you are already a member of our community. You can learn more about it during the inquiry session.

  • Every month, we will invite you to participate and support your ward in the games and activities during one of the gamified weekly sessions. These activities strengthen the parent-child bond while also assisting the child in developing teamwork skills.

  • Weekly live classes will be held, as well as two one-on-one mentor calls per month. Some video-based resources based on the topic may be provided, but these will be additional (free) resources.

  • We try to schedule the class at a time that is convenient for all time zones because we have a global cohort. The class will only be held on weekends. In the inquiry session, you can learn more about the class time.
